USB Boot & Install Guide
Run O OS on any PC or laptop in about 10 minutes — no technical skill needed.
1Download the O OS ISO
Download the latest O OS image on any computer:
⬇ Download O OS (latest ISO)
You need a USB pen drive of 2 GB or larger. Everything on the USB drive will be erased.
2Write the ISO to your USB drive
On Windows:
- Download the free tool Rufus (rufus.ie)
- Open Rufus → select your USB drive → click SELECT and choose the O OS ISO
- Click START. If Rufus asks, choose "Write in DD Image mode"
On Mac / Linux: use balenaEtcher — select the ISO, select the USB drive, click Flash.
3Boot your PC from the USB
- Plug the USB drive into the PC/laptop and switch it on
- Immediately tap the Boot Menu key repeatedly:
| Brand | Boot menu key |
| Dell | F12 |
| HP | F9 (or Esc then F9) |
| Lenovo | F12 |
| Asus | Esc or F8 |
| Acer | F12 |
| MSI / Gigabyte | F11 / F12 |
- Select your USB drive from the menu and press Enter
- O OS starts in about 30 seconds — no installation required to try it
If the USB does not appear: enter BIOS setup (usually F2 or Del), disable Secure Boot, save and retry. O OS boots on both UEFI and legacy BIOS machines.
4(Optional) Install to your hard drive
Want O OS permanently, so it works without the USB drive?
- Right-click the desktop → Install O OS
- Select the target disk, choose a disk encryption password, and confirm
- Wait for "Done", remove the USB drive and reboot
- At every boot, enter your encryption password — your whole disk is protected with LUKS2 full-disk encryption
Warning: installing erases everything on the selected disk. Back up your files first. O OS is beta software — use a spare machine if possible.
